CoEvoD Applications
Nomination materials
Nomination materials consist of the application document and two letters of recommendation.
For the application document, please submit as a single PDF:
- A two-page research plan written by the applicant including:
- Prior Research Experience,
- Project Suitability for the Applicant’s Background,
- How the Project Fits with the CoEvoD Theme,
- Any Pertinent Notes on Academic Performance,
- One-sentence descriptions of:
- Major goal of the project
- Approaches / methods used in the project
- Statement that both candidate and mentor support the nomination,
- A complete list of the nominee鈥檚 research experiences including any publications and presentations
- Paragraph of research project with list of outcomes underneath is appropriate
- Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts
- NIH Biosketch of the trainee
- NIH Biosketch of the advisor
The nomination may be submitted by either the candidate or the CoEvoD preceptor but will
require the cover letter to indicate that both the candidate and their mentor approved of this
nomination.
The PDF should be named as follows:
- “Application_trainee-last-name_year-in-program”
- Ex 1. Application_Flick_Second (for Andy Flick, a graduate student starting their second year in the academic year 2025/2026)
- Ex 2. Application_Flick_Third (for Andy Flick, a graduate student starting their third year in the academic year 2026/2027)
Two letters of recommendation are also required – one from the applicant’s advisor and one from a previous research advisor (e.g., undergraduate mentor, REU advisor, rotation leader, etc.). Each should be submitted by the letter writer and not the trainee. If your letter-writer is not a VU / VUMC affiliate, they may email the letter to Andy (andrew.j.flick@vanderbilt.edu). The letters should be PDFs named as follows:
- “trainee-last-name_writer-last-name”
- Flick_Elderd (for Andy Flick, written by Bret Elderd)
- Flick_Brunet (for Andy Flick, written by Johanne Brunet)
