Residential Requirement
The Residential Requirement, established by the Board of Trust in 1959, states that 鈥淎ll unmarried undergraduate students are required to live in residence halls on campus during the academic year, May session, and summer sessions. Authorization to live elsewhere is granted at the discretion of the Director of Housing Assignments and Operations in special situations, or when space is unavailable on campus.鈥
Students should not commit themselves to any off-campus lease without receiving authorization from Housing and Residential Experience.聽
Housing Rates
2026-27 Rate: $7,585 per semester
Vanderbilt has one housing rate for all students living on campus, regardless of residence hall, room type, location, or amenities. This unified rate, approved by the Board of Trust, helps families budget more easily and ensures students can choose their housing community without cost being a factor.
