Students participating in the undergraduate study away program at the ÎåÒ»²è¹Ý¶ù–New York City campus have an incredible opportunity to live and study in the heart of New York City. Vanderbilt’s campus in Chelsea provides immediate access to the wide variety of unique elements of living in New York City with the familiarity of Vanderbilt’s resources, faculty, and student experience.

We look forward to welcoming you to NYC in August. The first few days are designed to help you get settled, build community, and begin your experience in the city.Ìý

Please note that required program activities will take place Sunday, August 23 through Tuesday, August 25. Students should plan to be fully available during this time. Additional details will be shared closer to arrival.

Move-In Travel Tips

  • Airports

    Airports:ÌýIf traveling by air, you may arrive at any of the three major New York City airports:

    • LaGuardia Airport (LGA) – approximately 8 miles from campus
    • John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) – approximately 17 miles from campus
    • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) – approximately 16 miles from campus
  • Getting to Campus
    • Rideshare or taxis (Uber, Lyft, or yellow cabs) are the most convenient option with luggage
    • Public transit is available from JFK and EWR (AirTrain + subway or NJ Transit)
  • Planning Ahead
    • Allow extra time for traffic, as NYC conditions can be unpredictable
    • Have your destination address ready: 429 West 20th Street (Primary Entry Point)

Important Dates

Sunday, August 23 — Move-In Day & Community WelcomeÌý

Move-In Arrival Window: 8 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. (You may arrive at any time during this period; early arrivals are not permitted.)

Evening programming will include opportunities to connect with the NYC cohort and participate in required community meetings.Ìý

Monday, August 24 — Exploring NYC & Building CommunityÌý

The day will include small-group experiences across New York City in the morning, optional peer-led activities in the afternoon, and evening community programming.Ìý

Tuesday, August 25 — Full Cohort Gathering

The day will begin with a signature NYC experience in the morning, followed by a full-campus welcome, interactive sessions, and community-building activities with faculty, staff, and peers. The cohort will also gather for a group photo. Ìý

Wednesday, August 26 — First Day of ClassesÌý

Student Accommodation Information

If you’re a student participating in the program and currently have dining, mobility, or housing accommodations, please contact the Student Access Office (SAO) as part of your application process to discuss how those accommodations may be implemented at the Chelsea campus.
